The battle for Peleliu was originally supposed to last only a few days in the end it was fought for almost three months.

Kloulklubed is the main settlement on the Palau island of Peleliu. But the cost of D-Day on Peleliu was 1148 wounded 92 killed and 58 missing. It is situated at the northern end of the island close to North beach.
The southern half of Peleliu including its airfield was captured within the first week following the landings. After a few days the 1st Marine Division had secured the beachhead the airfield and most of the island. The purpose of the closure is to allow the Koa Moana Task.
